Her photography is rooted in being present in the field,
sharing time, labor, and life with her subjects.
写真家・古谷千佳子は、
海人（漁師）・海女・武道家・職人など、
身体を使って生きる人々を30年以上にわたり撮影してきました。
海人を撮るときは自らも海に入り、
空手を取材するときは自身も鍛錬する。
現場に身を置き、生き方に身を投じる
「体当たり取材」を創作の軸としています。
Photographer Chikako Furuya has spent over 30 years
documenting people who live and work with their bodies,
including fisherfolk, divers, martial artists, and artisans.
When photographing fisherfolk, she enters the sea herself.
When documenting karate, she trains her own body.
By being present in the field and devoting herself to the lives she photographs,
she places “hands-on documentation” at the core of her creative practice.

東京都出身、沖縄在住 写真家。
海人・海女・武道家・職人など、
身体を使って生きる人々を30年にわたり撮影。
海人を撮るときは潜水士となり、
空手を取材するときは自身も鍛錬する。
現場に身を置き、
生き方に身を投じ「体当たり取材」を進めている。
TBS「情熱大陸」、NHK「グラン・ジュテ」、テレビ東京「ソロモン流」、BSフジ「夢の食卓」などで、その活動と生き様がドキュメントされる。
1997年、潜水士から写真家へ転身し、沖縄の海人の撮影を開始。
2011年より全国各地で海女の撮影を継続。
2013年からは沖縄空手・古武道の体当たり取材を開始。
